Job Description for Director of Faith Formation

This person is responsible for building the faith in Christ at Faith Lutheran Church.
This person will model Jesus Christ in word and action by being warm, energetic and approachable as s/he works with elementary-age youth, high school-age youth, volunteers and parents.
Relating well to teenagers and being able relate the Bible to them is critical.
II. PRIMARY DUTIES
A. Communicate effectively with the Pastor, the office staff, the Church Council, the Youth Committee, parents and key volunteers.
B. Recruit adult volunteers.
C. Visit the homes of youth and their parents and stress our high expectations for youth and parent involvement.
D. Become an active part of the families with young children by conducting two activities per year.
E. Plan and participate in four local youth events and retreats each year such as those sponsored by God Squad.
F. Plan and conduct nine monthly church activities for high school youth (Wednesday evenings).
G. Plan and conduct five events yearly for Confirmation students.
H. Attend a National youth event or work camp, typically in summer months.
I. Visit Sunday School classrooms, in particular assisting pastor with Third Grade Bible and Fifth Grade First Communion classes.
J. Participate in the one day ecumenical Vacation Bible School in June.
K. Attend church services twice per month (1X Sunday and 1X Wednesday), do an occasional children’s sermon, recruit youth to the Faith Praise Team (contemporary band) or for other youth music.
L. Attend one continuing education event per year.
M. Other duties as assigned.
A. A person who can relate to teenagers as well as relate the Bible to teenagers.
B. Ideally has a college background in youth ministry or youth-related work.
C. Ability to plan and organize work.
D. Has a commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord of the Church.
E. Understands the mission and structure of the ELCA and its local, synodical, regional, and church wide expression.
F. This person should have a sense of humor.
G. Has the ability to maintain a satisfactory working relationship with other employees, congregational members and the general public.
A. Compensation for a minimum 15 hour work week = $15,000 Minimum of 30 hours must be worked each pay cycle. Activity, interaction, and time spent required on each pay cycle timecard.

D. All expenses paid to attend one continuing education course selected by Pastor.
V. PERFORMANCE REVIEW
A. The Director of Faith Formation shall participate in quarterly reviews.
These reviews will include the following; looking at the job description, performance evaluation, the setting of quarterly goals and review of progress.
The annual review will be done by the Lead Pastor, a representative of the Personnel Committee and a representative of the Director of Faith Formation Search Committee.
